How much are you eating?

When trying to be healthy people can focus on nutrients like protein or carbohydrate rather than looking at the amounts of foods consumed. What you eat is important but even more so is the amount that you eat. Check out how much you are eating, particularly of the high energy foods like crisps, bread, rice, cakes, chocolates, alcohol, cheese etc.

Serve discrete smaller portions

Chose smaller portions of the foods that are high in added sugar. Use a smaller plate. Buy portioned controlled packs. It has been found that when provided with a discrete amount, the individual usually stops when all is consumed whether it is a large or small portion.

Make healthy eating easy

Make healthy eating easy, set your environment up so you will succeed. Effort is one of the strongest influences on consumption. Therefore, small changes to make the healthier items easier to access can help improve healthy food consumption. Hide desserts, place the fruit bowl in a visual spot, cut up fruits and vegetables and store them for ease of access in the fridge and freezer, have vegetables and fruits as the first thing you see in freezer and fridge, remove tempting foods from your view, and make it difficult to access them.

Fill up on vegetables

Fill up your plate with high water containing vegetables. Individuals will tend to use the volume of food as an indicator of intake, rather than the calorie density.
